Junebug

Boxers. I love them. My little affair with boxers started when I worked at a doggie day care center during college. It was there that I met my soulmate. He was handsome, charming, and had the gentles soul I'd ever met. It was love at first sight. He had a knack for wooing the ladies and his charm hit me like a truck. He'd always give me these big, sloppy kisses that would put any other man I'd known to shame. I'm sure it's obvious that this guy I'm talking about is a boxer dog. It was because of him that I grew to adore the breed. They are so funny and cute. With their little stubby tails moving a mile a minute and their butts shaking like a polaroid picture, they're perfect. I'm so glad I got Junie. She's the love of my life.

Family & love

iPhone snapshots of moments in my life with my loves.

I think I might want to make this a regular post. The further I find myself going into "adulthood", the harder it seems for me to pick up my camera. I used to be so into photography, it was my being, my calling. My life. But now, sitting here, after 8 hours of working on my feet and 2 more hours of farting around on the internet, I feel like I've lost myself in regards to photography. My grown-up life has taken the childhood out of me completely. Sometimes I wonder what happened. Then I panic and wonder WHEN it happened. Regardless, I will try (I know I've said it before and had meant it for a whole 20 minutes) to take more pictures. It may not be awesome SLR type pictures but baby steps people, baby steps!

Bath time.

She thoroughly abhorred bath time. But when you stink like that, you ain't go no other options, baby.

I found it irritating that I wasn't able to edit both the pictures similarly. They were taken with the same lighting, settings, subject... etc etc. So why then can't I get identical results? If I wasn't such a grandma, I'd probably try and correct that, but since it's kinda, sorta past my bedtime, I'm gonna let it slide.

After all, it's only Tuesday. I have plenty of time to exhaust myself before the weekend gets here.

Leica girl

I know, I know, it's been AGES since my last post. Fortunately, today I'm back & ready for some blogging. Last weekend, the hubby & I went on a little road trip to pick up a new puppy. *GASP* A new pet?! Yep, we have a full house of four legged creatures. The puppy is an Alaskan Malamute. She's a gorgeous little thing. I can't get over how much she resembles a wolf. I guess that's what drew the hubby towards the breed. He's always had one growing up & a few years ago had to give up one to his parents. You guys might recognize her from an earlier post. Last Saturday we drove 4 hours north to pick up the little girl from a private breeder and it's been a whirlwind of craziness ever since. So the past few days have been difficult, to say the least. She's not exactly house broken yet & she's howler... a really loud howler. She loves her squeaky toys and spends an obscene amount of time squeaking them, she's constantly drinking which means constantly peeing, and she's a complete slob. But it's ok, we still love her.

Did I mention her name?

It's Leica. Yep, like the camera.

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole"

- Roger Caras

Meet Udon. She's my hubby's former dog who now lives with his parents. She's an adorable little thing... well, little wouldn't be the most politically correct term for her. She's a BIG dog. Big, cuddly, fluffy, too cute for words. These were taken when we went over for Thanksgiving dinner. All the dogs were banned to the backyard during dinner so they were all crowded around the door, begging to be let back in. Poor Junie, she was the most stressed out... being in the company of her cousin's really didn't help. All she wanted was to hang out with her mommy :)

alive & kicking

It's definitely been awhile since I've last updated on here. Lots of things have changed. For one, it's cold outside now. Thank god for that because I was getting worried that this heat wave was gonna stick around for most of winter. Thankfully, a cold front came through a few days ago, bringing with it crispier, cooler weather. I've been frequenting the dog park more often now that I won't instantly burn the second I step foot outside. Junie sure does appreciate it :)

Speaking of Junie, a few weekends ago was Pet Fest. There's sort of a tradition to head out to this annual event with little Junie (even though this is only the second year we've participated). It's so much fun to see all the booths and rescue groups there. We try to go see Junie's foster mom at the Lone Star Boxer Rescue booth so that we can show off how gorgeous Junie has become :D Vicki fostered Junie when she was rescued from the pound a year ago. She gave Junie a loving home and helped train her to be the perfect companion. It was definitely nice to see them bond again. I made sure to spoil Junie rotten while we were there. I got her a few doggie treats as well as a banging pair of goggles that she totally rocked out.

So recently I've had a humongous craving for some crab. I don't usually eat a lot of seafood (mostly because beef is my calling) but this time, for some reason, I just HAD to get me some crab. There's something about cracking open the shell to reveal succulent, juicy meat that'll be dipped in butter that I couldn't steer clear of. I can't come close to describing how satisfying it was to eat my Crab Daddy Feast (that's right, the big man's crab platter). Now if only crawfish season would hurry up and get here. Then I'd be in HEAVEN.

What I would do for you...

It's no secret. I have a love affair with dogs. Especially my baby, Junie. I rescued her from Lone Star Boxer Rescue about a year ago and since then she has been my world. At the time, she was in pretty bad condition. She was all skin and bones and heavy heartworm positive. We went through 2 months of grueling heartworm treatment that required her to be on a strict "no activity" regimen. She ended the treatment around December 2009 and since then has been on monthly heartworm medications. Recently she had her checkup and they discovered that she was still light positive :( The vet recommended another round of treatment to hopefully "cure" her. The problem is that I don't want her to go through that again. She's been through so much in her short life and her health issues seem to never end. Of course I want nothing but the best for her. I want her to live a long, healthy life. No matter what the cost... oh, did I mention the cost? $950. ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS!! It's making me dizzy just thinking about it. On one hand, it's the right thing to do, on the other hand, that's a lot of money.

I'm going to try and get a second opinion but if they say the same thing then I'd be willing to fork over the money. I'd do anything for her. She means more than the world to me. She's family.
